Across town, Hudson Catholic also got in the win column against local foe Lincoln. The Hawks received an outstanding performance by senior halfback Jason Hendricks.
Hendricks rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns in the win. A surefire Division I recruit, Hendricks can only continue to raise his stock with some more big time performances the rest of the way.

This, despite Hudson having suffered a 28-7 defeat to the consensus #1 ranked Marauders. So, there was little surprise that in polls released today, the Hawks maintained their #19 ranking in the Newark Star-Ledger and moved up one spot - to #18 - in the weekly Gannett News poll of New Jersey high school football programs.
The Hawks, with a 3-2 record, face HCIAA opponent Marist HS (Bayonne) on Saturday, October 14th. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm at Ahern Memorial Stadium in Bayonne.

Garrett Askew (Sr. - Newark, NJ) has accepted a football scholarship to play at the University at Albany. The Great Danes are members of the America East Conference and play football in the highly competitive Northeast Conference (NEC). Askew (shown seated along with - L-R - his father, Hawks Head Coach & AD Rob Stern, and Principal Dr. Paul Ward) is an Honors student and Peer Minister at Hudson Catholic and was recently the recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award from the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association. Said Askew, “I liked the atmosphere at Albany. The coaches really seemed to care during the recruiting process and the players were incredibly positive about the staff. The facilities are exceptional. They are beautifully maintained and state-of-the-art, which is what you would expect from a campus that hosts the NY Giants training camp every year. It is close enough to home that my family can see me play, which is very important to me. The most important reason is that I want to major in Criminal Justice and the University at Albany is ranked in the top 5 of the country for Criminal Justice.”
Askew, listed at 6”1’ and 197 pounds, is a physical presence in the secondary. More important, he possesses the raw speed necessary for the position. For the past 3 seasons, Askew received First Team All-County recognition for the High Hurdles and Second Team All-County recognition in the 400 meter Hurdles and the 400 meter dash. Said Askew, “My coaches at Hudson Catholic really prepared me well for the next level. They stress academic success and they make you want to learn both on and off the football field. The fact that they previously coached on the college level really helps during the recruiting process. I’m going to wait and see my schedule before I decide if I’ll run Track at Albany.” Said Hudson Catholic Head Coach Rob Stern, “Garrett is a tremendous asset to our school and our program. He is a fine young man and I am truly happy to see great things happen to him. Albany is getting a great football player but, more important, they’re getting a great young man.” Askew was also being recruited by both Cornell and Colgate, and had a walk-on opportunity at Division 1-A Temple University.

Hudson Catholic All-County DB Calvin Brownridge (Soph. - Irvington, NJ) was named Outstanding Defensive Back of the National Underclassmen Combine (East Coast location) on Sunday, April 2nd. The event, held at the indoor Sports Factory in Lincoln Park, NJ, was attended by 300 athletes from the tri-state area, as well as talented sophomores and juniors from as far away as Maryland and Virginia.
Among Brownridge's accomplishments at Sunday's event were a 40-yard dash time of 4.54 seconds and a shuttle time of 4.19 seconds. In addition, Brownridge demonstrated tremendous coverage skills and looked impressive in one-on-one drills vs. Wide Receivers - including several from some of the top high school football programs on the East Coast. Hudson Catholic will host Memorial HS (West New York,
NJ) this Saturday, 10/22/05.
The Hawks enter Saturday's game hoping to keep alive the possibility of qualifying
for the NJSIAA Group 3 Non-Public playoffs. Hudson Catholic (2-4) currently
holds the 7th position in the Group 3 Non-Public power point rankings, and needs
a victory over Memorial to have a chance at postseason play in 2005.
The contest, set for a 3:30pm kickoff, will be held at Caven Point in Jersey
City. The time change should be noted, as the game was originally scheduled
for a 7:00pm start.
Tuesday, October 11, 2005
Hudson Catholic will play host to Hoboken HS (Hoboken,
NJ) this Saturday, 10/15/05.
A young Hawks squad enters the game having won consecutive games
for the first time in 2005. Hudson Catholic has a record of
2-3 in HCIAA play. Given the Hawks' strength of schedule, they
are still very much in contention for an NJSIAA Non-Public Group
3 playoff spot, if they can continue their winning ways.
Hoboken is tied for first place in the HCIAA standings, and has been
nothing short of dominant in 2005. Opponents have only managed
15 total points against the Redwings (4-0), while the Hoboken offense has averaged a staggering
52.3 points per game.
The contest, set for a 1:30pm kickoff, will be held at Caven Point in Jersey
City.

Hudson Catholic begins its 2005 HCIAA season on Saturday, September
10th, vs. St. Peter's Prep at Caven Point in Jersey City. Kickoff
is set for 7:00pm.
Hawks' *Head Coach Rob Stern* is glad the anticipation of this
matchup is nearing its end. "There is always a huge build up leading to the
Prep game each year," said Stern. "Our kids are focused and ready to
play. We had a huge crowd at last year's opener vs. Prep, and that has
only added to the excitement of playing them. The wait is finally over,
and we face a great challenge on Saturday night in taking on a
tremendous football program in St. Peter's Prep."
Hudson Catholic is coming
off a 6-4 season in 2004 - the first team in school history to qualify
for the NJSIAA state playoffs in consecutive seasons. St. Peter's
Prep is the defending HCIAA Football Champions, having posted
a 10-1 overall record in 2004.
A capacity crowd of over 5,000 is expected at Caven Point for
this matchup, and it is recommended that spectators arrive as
early as possible to ensure seating availability.
